Don Rafa emigrated to the United States along with his 8 children and his wife Consuelo. He followed the American dream by forgetting his recipe in a drawer on the side of his bed. He only cooked birria for important events of the Godinez family.
Don Rafa left part of it in that same drawer and 86 years later he suggested to his son Raúl that he open a restaurant with the recipe that he had kept sacredly for many years.
Although at first it seemed crazy, the Godinez family decided to open the drawer on the side of Don Rafa’s bed and open the doors of Birrieria Don Rafa, the first restaurant in San Diego specialized
in birria de chivo and res.
